Wonderful June 16, 2008 Dr. Marvin J. Effa (Plano, Texas) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This waffle iron actually does make two waffles in 3.5 minutes. The batter works best if it is a bit thicker than normal, one then immediately flips the iron and sets the timer. I found it works best if one waits 2 minutes before adding the second waffle. Once the second waffle is added, immediately flip it, placing the first waffle on top. When the timer sounds, take the first waffle out, add more batter, restart the timer and flip it. When 1.5 minutes have passed remove the second waffle, add more batter and immediately flip it. The key seems to be to immediately flip the machine once the batter is poured. I used a buttermilk (not low-fat), Bisquick, oil and 2 egg mixture in a two-quart mixing bowl. So far I've had two waffle parties (20 people at the first and 5 at the second). This machine produced the waffles as fast as they could eat them. From the first waffle on they were perfect. It is truly an amazing product. Marvin
GREAT WAFFLES! May 27, 2008 R. Schmidt (Downingtown, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was reluctant to spend over 200 bucks for a waffle maker but the recent bad reviews on the Waring and the good reviews for this unit convinced me to spring for the extra scatch. I'm glad I did. This is a solid unit that makes 2 great waffles in about 3 to 3.5 minutes. This means that after a few minutes warm-up, you can make 6 waffles in about 10-12 minutes. We used a store bought Belgian waffle mix and they came out perfect. Crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. Clean-up was easy because of the good teflon coating. Just wipe with a damp paper towel. You don't need to oil the griddles. In fact, Kitchen Aid directions say to not oil it because an oil residue can build up. The only negative I have with this unit is that it is big and heavy but I guess thats what makes it a great waffle maker so I'll live with it.
Awesome Waffles! May 3, 2008 mrmikey (Palm Springs, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Anyone who has tried these waffles say they are the best ever. I have used Krusteaz pancake/waffle mix for years and do so with this wafflemaker. There is no comparison to the "former" waffles from an older high-end wafflemaker. These are thick, tasty, Belgian waffles. One waffle (will quarter) serves 1 hungry person for a BIG meal - lighter eaters probably will only eat 1/2 to 3/4 waffle. Have nothing to say but fantastic - and being able to make two waffles at a time is the best! You could easily serve 4-6 people at a time without folks having to wait.
awesome waffle iron March 28, 2008 Susan Brinkley (elk city, ok. USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I Love this waffle iron! I can finally cook them fast enough to be able to join my family for breakfast instead of standing in the kitchen all morning!
NOT THE BEST BY A LONG SHOT February 22, 2008 Prime Chuck (Pleasanton, CA) 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
Pros: Solid looking and impressive. Makes two waffles at once. Makes thick (1 1/4 inch) waffles. Cons: Slow to heat and cook. No temperature adjustment - only cooking time can be adjusted. Low fat and oil free batters will stick to the grids. Cooks somewhat unevenly, as one side will brown more than the other. Too tall to open on counters with cupboards above unless pulled forward to the front of the counter, so it consumes a lot of counter space. Heavy to lift and move. Knob on front sticks out and can easily be knocked off. Reliability - mine died after a short period. I eat waffles almost everyday and decided to upgrade to this unit. What a disappointment. I also tried the Chef's Choice WafflePro M850 which I assumed would be inferior - it's not. The WafflePro has 1750 watts versus the KitchenAid's 1400 watts and the ability to adjust both time and temperature, providing considerably more texture and taste flexibility than the KitchenAid. The WafflePro is also much faster, although it will cook only one 8 1/2 inch square waffle versus the KitchenAid's two 7 1/2 inch round waffles at one time. But since it cooks more than twice as fast, you can actually produce more waffle "product" in a given time period with the WafflePro M850 than with the KitchenAid. The WafflePro also has better non-stick grids which will accept low fat and oil free batters without sticking, a plus for calorie counting waffle lovers such as myself. When my KitchenAid died I was actually relieved to have a reason to return it for a refund since I was surprisingly disappointed in its performance.
