Problems with the On Demand after only four months of use!!! September 7, 2008 NickD (WI) Always avoided digital coffee makers, just something else to go wrong, wake up in the morning, manually fill it and switch it on and it works. But hey, this is a Cuisinart and has to be good, well it isn't. And at the worse time, had a long business trip, need my thermos, and the thing is dead, no LCD display, power switch was dead. Checked my outlets, good, grabbed my old cheap Mr. Coffee, and it worked. I called service the next day, was told all I have to do is to unplug it for an hour. An hour? Should I get up an hour earlier to make my coffee? Was told it would only happen once. That was last week, happened twice again. But it doesn't take an hour, more like 90 seconds, unplug it, wait 90 seconds and it works again. Course you have to reprogram it that is a pain in the butt. See others are completely dead, have a feeling the microprocessor controlled relay is defective and mine probably has dirty contacts that are generating a glitch that is screwing up some poorly written software. This is a design fault, and will call again tomorrow with more ammunition. Maker does have a three year warranty. Are others having this same problem? Since my wake up time is different each morning, never use the auto turn on feature, make my coffee first, use the rest room for that morning stuff and ready when I go back downstairs again. Some things about this pot bugged me at first and still bug me. Should have used an LED display or at least back light the LCD, at that angle with an overhead lighting source, difficult to read it so have a flashlight handy. Filling the coffee reservoir with water and trying to pour that in that small opening next to the lid, especially early in the morning is bothersome, tip it too much and the insides will get wet with water. So I am now using my sink sprayer to fill that, use my right hand for that and put in a filter and coffee with my left hand. Get done at the same time. Was wondering how I could fill my thermos, that was a no brainer, simply pull out the reservoir and fill it. Ha, thermos sits inside the sink if I get sloppy. Should be a light under the spout, like black coffee cups and difficult to see when full, but my ear can tell when it is full after practice. Will call them tomorrow morning, this time with more arguments, especially after reading other peoples comments with similar problems. Shouldn't be this way.
great, but stopped working after 2 years September 3, 2008 J. Mattingly (Kansas City, MO) It makes good coffee, and I love the design. Unfortunately, it stopped working after 2 years. The clock works, but it won't start brewing when I try to turn it "on". Luckily, Bed Bath and Beyond replaced it for free without a receipt. I'm sure Amazon would do the same. I'll keep this receipt for sure. My previous coffeemaker was the Hamilton Beach 47224 Brew Station which I loved, although it started leaking after 6 months use. I really like the coffee on demand type coffee makers, but my next one will probably be the Technivorm model recommended by America's Test Kitchen/Cook's Illustrated. Still, I love the look of this Cuisinart. Buy it, but keep the reciept!
No Complaints!!! August 31, 2008 T. Rodriguez (Rio Rancho, NM USA) I eyed this product quite some time ago and when I decided I finally needed another coffe pot, I spent alot of time reading the reviews on this item before I actually purchased it. I have to say I was disappointed with some of the negative reviews which now I see how trivial they are in comparison to how great this machine works! I purchased it about 5 weeks ago and so far it works to my expectation. The coffee is always quite hot even after adding cold creamer. I think it's quite easy to clean and I love the fact that there are no glass parts....no carafe! I do use the paper filter instead of the permanent one that it came with due to the sedament and I don't use the water filter either. I cannot believe that others would find any inconvenience with the size of the mouth of the water reservoir or that it doesn't fit conveniently under the cabinets. All I have to say is that there are far too many people with too high of standards for the simple things in life. It is a great machine and I love the taste of the coffee that comes out of it!
Love it! August 23, 2008 C. Pritchett (Alabama) We've had our On Demand for about a year and we still love it. Coffee is brewed very hot which seems to extract a better flavor. And it stays hot without a burnt taste you sometimes get with a glass carafe. LOVE IT!
AVOID - DESIGN FLAW - WILL STOP WORKING August 12, 2008 Lisa R. Shaw (Los Angeles, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The on / off switch in these coffee makers is faulty. When you switch it on the light comes on but the water stays in the resevoir and - no water - no coffee. So three months after purchase I was left with a broken coffee maker. After calling cuisinart I would never buy another cuisinart product. I told them the problem and that I knew it was a design flaw because thousands of other people reported the same problem online. She asked if it was less than 90 days since I bought it because if so under California law I could return it to the store !!!!!. I was disgusted simply because the store would then have to take the loss for what was a cuisinart design flaw. Cuisinart just wanted to pass the expense and the buck back to the store. After a long discussion she finally agreed to replace it and told me to return the unit in its box. ( Oh yes, if you buy this keep the original box sitting in your house waiting for it to break down because they insist on you returning it IN THE ORIGINAL BOX. ) I LOVE THE DESIGN , I LOVE THE CONCEPT, I HATE THE FACT IT DOESN'T WORK. SAVE YOURSELVES SOME TROUBLE AND BUY A DIFFERENT COMPANIES MODEL BECAUSE THIS ONE IS FLAWED
