Römertopf carries on this tradition by crafting clay pots and dishes specifically intended for cooking a variety of vegetables, meats, casseroles, and breads in the home oven. Manufactured in Mexico, each vessel is made from unglazed and porous terra cotta containing no lead or cadmium. Before each use, the pot is soaked in water in order to absorb a certain amount of moisture into the permeable clay. This moisture is slowly released during cooking, sealing in the natural juices and increasing the flavor and tenderness. The new large garlic baker from Römertopf is perfect for roasting garlic to be used as a spread on bread or in soups, sauces, and gravies. The dome-shaped baker stands 6 inches tall, measures 7-1/4 inches in diameter, and is adorned with a sculpted head of garlic that serves as the handle atop the lid. With the ability to roast between four and six heads of garlic, this large baker can also be used as a serving dish. Intended to be used only in the oven, Römertopf recommends washing all clay pots by hand. mmmmm ... Garlic July 1, 2008 Benjamin Fuller (Philadelphia, PA) This oven does what it says it does, but takes longer than the instructions state. I left mine in for an hour before they worked correctly. But the garlic spreads like butter and it does not take alot of cooking prowess to successfully use.

Just cut the top off of the garlic and dab it with olive oil and black pepper, then put it in this thing (after soaking it in water for a minute) and put in the oven for half an hour, garlic comes out creamy and spreadable like butter with a great roasted flavor that you can't get out of prepackaged roasted garlic. Just spread it straight onto bread and bake for garlic bread, or add the roasted garlic to soup for a great flavor you can't get any other way.
