4 out of 5 stars toaster   February 8, 2008

I love this product. The only complaint I have is that there is no crumb catch when using it for anything.

1 out of 5 stars Not what was expected.   January 29, 2008

The toaster did a good job as far as toasting went. When finished, product would not drop through the bottom. Tried Bagels,English muffins, and bread. All behaved in a similar fashion.

2 out of 5 stars Doesn't heat   January 22, 2008

I acquired this toaster by redeeming award points from my job. I'd be pretty miffed if I had spent money on this thing. As it is, I'm a little upset about wasting my earned awards on it.
Here's the bottom line. The ONLY benefit this thing gives over other toasters is the ability to toast long items such as rye bread slices or a slice of any elongated bread such as fresh from a bakery. This is also the only reason it earns two stars instead of just one.
Before I got this, I read reviews and descriptions, and was mistakenly under the impression that the bread moves gradually through the toaster until coming out toasted from the bottom; like a conveyor of sorts. It does not. It works exactly like any other toaster except the item being toasted falls through a pseudo-trapdoor instead of popping back up through the slot. The slot is no deeper than any other toaster, so if something sticks out the top of your existing toaster, it will in this one too.
The main problem I have with this toaster is not only does it not toast evenly (it will burn a "band" across the middle before toasting the top and bottom), but it toasts the outside very quickly without heating through. In other words, if like me, you like toasting frozen waffles, it will burn the outside while not even heating the waffle through. The waffle just doesn't get hot overall. It won't even melt a pat of butter.

My advice...unless you toast long/rye bread exclusively, stay away from this toaster. It is otherwise useless.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing toaster   January 13, 2008

My experience with this toaster certainly was different from the other review. Even on the lightest setting, one corner of the bread burned. Also, if you have a large slice of bread it sits above the toaster and doesn't get toasted. I've gone back to the toaster oven I was using before. It may take longer but it does a better job.

5 out of 5 stars toast heaven   November 13, 2007

Last year,I remodeled my kitchen and decided that my old toaster oven(which still worked great)needed to be replaced with something nicer looking. That is when I entered a nightmare of toaster shopping. I wanted a toaster oven because I love toast, especially the long slices of sheepherder's bread. Toaster don't accomodate the length of that bread. Also, sometimes I like melting cheese on top without cooking the whole sandwich in a microwave. I bought and returned numerous toaster ovens due to the fact that they have been upgraded to do so much more, that they have lost the ability to just make good toast! I mean, 5 minutes for toast? What is that? It would dry out the bread long before it looked like toast, making it only good for a doorstop!I then decided to forgo the melted cheese and to cut the slices of bread in half and get a toaster. Well, apparently over the years, toasters have lost their ability to make toast too! That's their only job! Some took too long, some didn't toast evenly, some popped the toast out so hard that the toast left the toaster and landed on the floor. Only my dog can tell you if it even tasted any good. The last one gave me toast on one side, burnt on the other with the next slice I made, bread on one side, toast on the other AND that was on the same setting! THEN, I bought this toaster and I'm in toast heaven! The most perfect slice of tender, evenly toasted toast in seconds. With one long slot, I can put either 2 slice of regular bread in or 1 long slice! Doesn't pop out but slides down a kind of drawbridge. No more crumbs on the bottom of the toaster. Crumbs are on drawbridge, so you just wipe them away. Cool to touch. Slots are wide for thick bread or bagels. Also has a bagel setting that allows you to toast only the cut side of a bagel! Doesn't melt cheese though. Oh well, a quick once over with a BBQ lighter and I'm good to go!!
