1 out of 5 stars Not impressed.   May 10, 2008

I wasn't impressed by this toaster in any way. Although the slots are wide they are not long and I needed to cut the ends off my rye bread to get it into the slots. Nevertheless, I still expected a nicely toasted piece of bread.

Under the shiny stainless steel lies a rather mundane mechanism for toasting. The knobs came preset to "5" and since my wife likes her toast pale and I like mine quite dark, I set her side to "4" and mine to "6." Her toast came out basically raw while mine was almost burnt (at least on the left side--the right side was okay). What the other numbers do, I have no idea! But here's the strange thing: both of our slices were fairly cold right out of the toaster. They didn't even melt the room-temperature butter!

Although I didn't try the bagel toasting gadget or the warmer function, even if they worked flawlessly I would have to say this toaster is substandard. I intend to return it next week.

Excellent product with dual controls so that two pieces can be toasted to a specific way for one person and the two other set to toast for another
person. Beautiful design. Excellent product. Rated #1 in Consumer Reports.KitchenAid Pro Line 4-Slice Toaster, Pearl Metallic

5 out of 5 stars Love this toaster!   May 6, 2008

First toaster I had was a Farberware. Loved it! That was over 20 years ago. When it died, someone gave me a Proctor Silex 4 slice as a gift. It was terrible! Took forever and only gave stale white toast on one side and brown on the other! When it came time to upgrade, I went with this KitchenAid toaster.

WOW! It's big, yes, but not much bigger than the PS we had before. It's great to look at for sure. But the toast! The toast is amazing. It actually toasts on both sides (something the PS didn't do) and is perfect. My favorite number is 5. Took me a while to get used to not having to flip it halfway through to toast on both sides. The warming feature is great too. I haven't used the bagel feature yet, but I'm sure that is great too.

This is an excellent toaster and well worth the price!

We needed a toaster that matched the rest of our kitchen, to replace one that didn't. This one fit the bill. It works quite well, handling a variety of sizes of slices.

Just a quick note then I am back to 1939. I got this toaster but when I took it out of the box I dropped it on my dog who had just been treated with a new flea repellent. I set it up and turned the dial to burn out any oily residue from the factory (an important step in any toaster set up). Then, to my great surprise, I was whisked back in time to an age before any human walked the earth. I stayed for about 2 minutes and then was popped back up into the present. I quickly related my time journey to the darkness setting on the dial and the duration I stayed to the time it took the levers to pop back up. I have since refined the process through some trial and error, and I am now going back to 1939 and try to kill Hitler. If I am successful I will report back. Wish me luck...
