You can trust all the negative reviews for this toaster that you'll read on this site. It's a terrible product. Black & Decker, what were you thinking???

1 out of 5 stars Fire Hazard!   June 2, 2008
A. Hanson (Boston, MA)
My daughter put in 2 pieces of toast, set the timer and turned away for a minute.

She smelled smoke and discovered the toast was on fire and flames were shooting out of the door!

With oven mitts on, she picked it up and ran outside with the now charred unit.

Even prior to this incident, the toaster never worked well. Just to toast 2 pieces of bread would take 6 or 7 mintes (with careful watching).

1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy this product   May 26, 2008

If you buy this product you will be sorry...It does not measure up to the quality we have come to expect from several previous models. It is a fire waiting to happen. The door does not open and close very easily. It cooks poorly and we always have to double check to see that it is turned off. Never leave it plugged in when not in use. We like the size of the unit but not its performance. Has Black and Decker been sold or lost their quality control?

1 out of 5 stars These bad reviews are accurate!   March 31, 2008

Sad to say, the above poor reviews weren't kidding. The timer ticking continues for a time after the toast cycle is "done", allowing it to burn while you wait for the DING to alert you. I put a frozen piece of bread on "medium", and burned it to a char by walking away. Seems that the wattage is really hot too. Did I mention the uneven browning of toast? Yes, I will learn the hard way to trust my reviewer friends, as I shop here. (no complaints about the vendor)

1 out of 5 stars FIRE HAZARD- Why has this model not been recalled?   March 11, 2008

I had a very close call today, almost burned down the house due to this product. I placed taco shells in the unit and set it at the products recommended temperature. Walked out of the room a few minutes, then noticed a very strong burning smell. Walked back in the kitchen and the taco shells were on fire. Pulled out the plug on the toasted with oven mitts put the toaster in the front yard to cool down.
Why has this toaster not been recalled? I am very surprised that it has not burned someones house down. If you google "black and decker toaster fire" there are pages and pages of recalls of Black and Decker toasters. BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!
