 Nice looking, good quality and simple to use October 3, 2008

This is a nice looking, easy to use and fast toaster oven. I use it often and I am happy with it. I preferred this over other for its digital control and look to match with the rest of the stuffs in my kitchen.

I REPLACED MY TOASTER OVEN WITH A NEWER VERSION. I FIND THE CONTROLS DIFFICUT TO USE. I HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE TIMER IN PARTICULAR. THE OLDER VERSION WAS SIMPLER .
THE DOOR SLAMS SHUT TOO READILY AND THE GLASS COULD BREAK. I AM DISAPPOINTED IN THIS MODEL. YOU NEED TO REDESIGN THIS MODEL.

I used to have a much larger toaster oven, but having subsequently bought my first microwave, when the big toaster oven died, I looked for a smaller toaster oven to free up some counter space. I've had this for about a month, and I think it's quite good for what it is, but for what it is, it's overpriced. If it were cheaper I'd rate it higher. It broils beautifully. The oven heats very quickly, which is great. By my measurements, it's about 50 degrees above the requested temperature in middle ranges, as has been noted by others. But small toaster ovens are always unreliable on precise temperature. That's why all those frozen foods that come in microwave containers say don't cook them in a toaster oven (which you can do just fine, by the way, if you know how far off the temperature is). I prefer toast a little lighter than it makes toast at T-1, but it's okay. I miss features like the hook pull-outs, which not only pull the shelf out when you open the door but keep the door from crashing up and down, and the pull-out, rather than drop-down, crumb drawer. It's a perfectly adequate small toaster oven, but it should be either a little better or a little cheaper.

One BIG minus
The digital controls look very pretty but there is no way to set the toast controls so that bread doesn't burn
The minimum toast time is 3:30 min and some breads start burning at 2 min

We chose this toaster oven because it is smaller than some of the beasts we've seen on the market, and because it operates on a digital/push-button mechanism instead of the ticking rotary dial. Also, we liked the sleek, no frills look of it. Size wise, this is about the same as our old Black and Decker that we were replacing.
Sadly, the DeLonghi lacks some of the better features of the scrappy Black and Decker, such as the hook on the door that pulls out the toast rack when you open the door. Not only does the DeLonghi lack this feature, the rack is nearly impossible to pull out of the oven (at least, without scraping the side walls). This means you have to stick some sort of utensil into the oven to fish out your toast. Not a big deal, but slightly annoying.
Perhaps the most annoying thing about this oven is that it isn't calibrated quite right. It heats up super fast, and super hot, which is great except for the fact that the toast timer is set too long and you almost always end up with burnt toast. The default setting for toast is "t4", which I can't imagine using. We always choose "t1" and even with bread that's been in the fridge, it comes out very dark (or burnt). We always stand watch and manually stop the toaster when it reaches the toast level we want. It would be nice if "t1" was actually a light toast so we don't have to hover over the thing, but even nicer, would be if it defaulted to the previous toast level, instead of going back to "t4" every time.
Two other minor annoying flaws are the fairly loud beeps that it emits, and the somewhat awkward crumb tray. The Cuisinart has by far the most annoying crumb tray (who puts it in the back?!) but the DeLonghi one has a drop-down style, so you actually end up lifting the toaster oven. Strange, and again, sadly not as convenient as the pull-out tray that the Black and Decker has.
On the plus side, this thing toasts very evenly, and the broiler feature really kicks it out.
