1 out of 5 stars don't buy it   May 25, 2008
massthreat (denton, texas)
been buying B and D toasters since 1986 so i feel like i know what i'm talking about. the last 2 i've bought have only about a year. the one i used to buy would give me about 2 1/2 years of service -- which i think is reasonable.

this toaster -- bought for its convection feature, lasted me about 11 mos and the convection fan went out 2 mos before the entire oven stopped working.

another piece of junk.

so this appliance is going to the landfill. seriously -- i would prefer to pay twice as much for something less disposable and i feel like it is time for these appliance companies to be more responsible and build something that lasts longer -- i've had 8 toasters since 1986 and that is stupid consumerism.

my message to these producers is build something that lasts.

and my message to my fellow consumers is don't buy this junk.

1 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE ---poor user manual, ON-OFF light poor, DANGER   April 20, 2008

TERRIBLE ---poor user manual-does not tell user how to work oven correctly--product may have been changed and manual not updated or is malfunctioning; ON-OFF L.E.D. light poor--light (is blue) only visible if you bend DOWN to the counter level to see directly in. TERRIBLE DESIGN , my old one was better. What oven does not have an on light that is ORANGE or RED ??

1 out of 5 stars Horrible and a fire hazard   April 13, 2008

Although this product worked fine the first couple months, it started being unpredictable. It doesn't turn off, the timer keeps going, the toast function doesn't turn off, it sometimes doesn't turn on, etc. Don't waste any money on this toaster oven.

2 out of 5 stars a little too hot   March 16, 2008

I received this as a gift two Christmases ago. I picked it because it was smaller and more attractive than other similar products. From the beginning it toasted unevenly. Burning in the middle and undertoasting on the outside. There is no way to toast 4 slices of bread evenly. You have to be really careful that you don't overtoast. If you have used the toaster setting once and then go for a second round you have to turn the time down significantly. Works OK as an oven. Also, the handle slips off easily and can be difficult to slip back on when the glass front is hot. With some time you can learn to use this toaster oven...if you learn how it will behave. Not nearly as nice as the previous toaster I owned from the same company...it was no worries. I wish I had gotten over the old look of it and kept it.

3 out of 5 stars So far, so good   February 22, 2008

I received this unit as a replacement for a defective Toastmaster unit under warranty and based solely on price, it is an upgrade. This far, the unit is working appropriately but I will keep an eye on a potential malfunctioning timer.

The lack of a UL listing on this unit as well as my Toastmaster is definitely a concern. I agree with previous comments about declining quality of Black and Decker items as I had a similar experience with a poorly designed and manufactured B&D coffee maker. It's almost as if B&D has given up trying to create a reliable or desirable product.
