Nesco Roaster Oven - As Promised February 8, 2008 Happy in Colorado (Denver, CO USA) I bought this 18-Quart Roaster Oven after the holidays. I only wish I would have purchased it BEFORE the holidays. I cooked a prime rib roast for a small family gathering after the holidays. It turned out PERFECT. The description and promises made were definitely delivered. If you are looking for a Roaster Oven to augment your own range, this is the one for you.
Good with some Flaws January 18, 2008 CH (Flint, MI) Nesco 18-qt. Stainless Steel Roaster with Stainless Steel Cookwell We gave the roaster a two hour pre-heat outside as recommended which allowed the smoke from the roaster to be outside. We also then gave the roaster a one hour pre-heat inside only because it was rather cold outside and we didn't think it was able to reach full temperature. The unit didn't smoke, but still did have a smell which slowly dissipated. The Nesco roaster worked perfectly. Some flaws: difficult to clean - I'd recommend using an oil spray to coat the pan, and when washing the cookwell it seemed to dent pretty easily.
Nesco 18 Qt Roaster December 14, 2007 CooksAlot (Austin, TX USA) Took the advice of other purchasers and let this unit "bake off" the terrible element smell....cooked on high for about 8 hrs....slight smell when used 1st time, but glad I had followed others recommendation. So far this is a wonderful unit, kept my potatoes, stuffing and vegetable nice and hot using the buffet kit...and the unit as a steam table (water in the insert pan)....have yet to actually roast in it, but I mainly like it and wanted it for serving, as is much nicer & keeps food perfectly hot and use the warming tray for other items. Highly recommend this product to others....
Great for turkey December 8, 2007 Careyon (Reno, NV United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved this roaster from our Tday turkey. The only issue was browning; but with a little kitchen bouquet and melted butter, plus a little butter under the skin, the bird browued up nicely. The meat was the best we've ever had-- moist, juicy, and perfectly cooked. We also deep fried a turkey, which had better skin, but the roaster produced the better, tastier meat. The "smoking" process is no big deal (which you must do before using the roaster), just make sure to do it outside or in a well ventilated porch or garage. It's stinky, takes about an hour, but isn't difficult! Well worth it.
Performed Well on Thanksgiving Day November 26, 2007 M. Cushner (Jefferson Co. MO) The roaster oven performed well on a stuffed 19 pound turkey. Two things are worthy of comment. The baking out (curing) of the roaster before the first use took longer than the suggested hour. Two hours would be better. Unlike our experience using a conventional oven, we found the turkey skin remained fatty. Possibly setting the temp at 400F or cooking longer might have made a difference. In all, a good experience on first use.
