2 out of 5 stars Not up to standard   June 26, 2008

Oster used to be a good name....

This is more like an over sized 4 slice toaster

The shelves do not fit and slide well, the overall finish is good though.

I have real questions about the aluminum broiler tray as when I washed it in the dishwasher it came out with a white powdery coating on it. I wonder if it is anodized as aluminum has shown certain health risks!!!!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Two features missing   June 23, 2008

The lettering on the oven stove is too small to read. I didn't like the timer feature for toasting bread. Would have preferred presetting a timer and temperature once(toast light, medium, or dark), and then only having to press one button each time I use the oven for muffins.

4 out of 5 stars Retro Look- Modern Functions- Great Product   June 22, 2008

Bigger than the average toaster oven and I use it for oven only. The knobs are easily understandable and it pre-heats in a jif. I got it in red and it looks really sharp in the kitchen. Front pull out tray makes it easy to clean up the crumbs and spills. Good value for such an attractive product

1 out of 5 stars Lousy for toast and DIED after 9 months!   June 20, 2008

I do NOT recommend this toaster oven. First, it doesn't make very good toast. We make toast almost daily and it is very difficult to set the toast timer so it will come out consistently the same. There isn't anything that you can adjust and then leave it there. It has a timer that has to be turned on every time you make toast and it is very inconsistent. So one day the bread is warm but not toasted at all and the next it comes out black in spots! Also, it really only toasts well in the center of the oven so 4 slices all get a partial toast/blackening depending on how the timer is working today. It is only a good toaster for ONE slice of bread placed in the exact center and only if you're willing to stand over it and watch until your toast is the right shade. The oven/broiler part did seem to work OK, but we only use that occasionally. The thing that REALLY upsets me is that we've had this thing for exactly 9 months and it has quit working and will no longer heat! What a joke! I've had other Oster appliances that I've been very happy with and I bought this partially based on the brand, but NO MORE! I'm going back to the cheaper GE models that last 3 or 4 years!

4 out of 5 stars Very happy with this Convection Toaster Oven   June 18, 2008

The broiler coils on my old Welbilt toaster convection oven quit heating. I'd had it many years, and it was a good investment, but Welbilt must have quit making them, because I couldn't find one. So I started searching the Internet and compared many different brands and models. I settled on this one, and I am very pleased with it. I don't think you can beat the quality at this price.

I bought a 12-inch frozen pizza to test if it would fit, and it did fit. (I can't report on how it turned out, however, because I forgot and cooked it in my big oven!) Other reviewers are correct that the toast would have to be smaller than I'm used to buying to fit 6 slices. I still use my regular toaster when I'm toasting 2 slices, but if I'm toasting 4 slices for BLT's for my husband and I, I use this oven--I put the rack on the top placement guides and turn it upside down so the toast is evenly between the bottom and top heating coils. This oven is not as tall as my old one, so it is more efficient at toasting, since the bread is closer to the heat coils. No toaster convection oven is going to be as efficient as a conventional toaster, however. I was very happy that it cooks very evenly (my welbilt always cooked hotter on the left side than the right side). Basically, I cook anything that will fit in this oven, and it cooks just as well as my big oven.

I got tired of using foil on the drip pan of my old oven, so I purchased the Chef's Planet Nonstick Toaster Oven Liner, and it fits perfectly on the tray that pulls out to wash. So far all spills have rinsed off very easily with no scrubbing, so I'm happy with that. (The only thing I can't understand is why grease gets under the liner so that the tray needs to be cleaned as well--in fact, it's hard to get the burned stains off, but since the liner covers the tray and looks very neat, it doesn't bother me. However, this is the only reason I didn't give it the full 5 stars.) I love the fact that you can pull out the tray and clean the liner and/or tray without opening the oven door.
