Works great, but longevity is questionable November 13, 2008 Woloman Pros: This item cooks great and fast, and the convection function is quiet. The push button controls are clear and easy-to-use. A great feature is that it "pre-heats" and beeps when the correct temperature is reached--THEN the timer starts. When the time runs out, the unit turns off. It fits a 12" pizza easily--it took 12 minutes in this oven vs. 20 in my full-size oven. Cons: I had this for less than a year and the top elements stopped working. Although it has a year warranty, who can ever FIND their original receipt to take advantage of it? The rails where the rack slides in have a lot of paint loss. Also, the rack isn't held in place by the door, so the hot rack can (and will) slide out when removing food. Verdict: A well-thought out machine with great functions, but it may not last you very long.
Cooks great and easy to use! August 28, 2008 K. Turner (IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this toaster oven for a couple months and I love it! I use it frequently and everything always turns out great. It doesn't take long to preheat, and yes it gets hot on the outside. It's an oven! It's doing the same work as an appliance that's 10 times it's size! The instructions warn against touching the outside of the oven while it's on, so it's really your own fault if you burn yourself. I've cooked pizzas and all kinds of other frozen foods and am always happy with the results. My husband is often out of town for work so it comes in handy when cooking small portions for one. It's also great for heating up leftovers if you don't want them to get soggy in the microwave. It does take longer to toast, but that's only because of it's size. Overall, this is a really great appliance!
Beware: Dangerous! August 22, 2008 A. Santabarbara (Schenectady, NY) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I had this for 3 days and it is going back. Looks nice, seems to cook good, but it gets almost as hot on the outside as it does on the inside. I can't believe they can still sell this thing. I've had B&D toaster ovens for years. This one gets HOT on the exterior-all the way around. When I say hot, I mean scalding hot. First time I toasted something I went to wipe a spec of dust off the top and bam first burn. Ok, it's hotter on the outside than the old ones. Next my son went to make toast as he's done for years on the old ones and accidentally touched the side, again burn. Third day, making toast I saw smoke and low and behold the hottest part of this unit is the back where the power cord was melting from the heat. I went to unplug it and accidentally touched the back for asplit second and 2nd degree burn! Unacceptable and definite fire hazard.
The Quick And Dirty On The B&D CTO-6301 August 9, 2008 Matt (Clearwater, Fla.) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The Black & Decker CTO6301 6-Slice Convection Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel is a capable tool for your kitchen. As with all purchases from Amazon, I'd recommend using a MasterCard to secure an extra 1-year extended warranty on any item guaranteed for 1-year or less. So far, this convection oven is fast and efficient and works as advertised. You can choose to use convection or to heat without the fan going. Great idea. We cooked a DiGiorno rising-crust pizza -- using convection -- in the supplied round pan. It didn't get quite done enough on the bottom. The top was perfect. There are four rack positions available by turning the rack and inserting into one of two slots. We should have used the lower slot. While the instruction manual <> is excellent and clearly written, the suggestions are guidelines. We like pizza a bit browner. Overall, it's much more efficient to heat up this toaster than to use an full-sized oven for frozen items. The crumb catcher is a snap to remove, clean and re-insert. The buttons are solid, easy to press, and well-labelled. I would like to see all appliances back-lit, but most kitchens are pretty bright, so viewing the LCD display should present little problems for most people (and I'm visually impaired, so the long buttons and ergonomic door handle are great). You can open the oven door, and the oven does not stop cooking. Great feature. Our old Toastmaster needed reset every time you opened the door. The preset buttons are considerate of most needs: bagel, toast, frozen dinner, pizza, bake, broil, and (thank heavens) potato. The oven interior is huge, but the appliance doesn't occupy all your counterscape. It easily fits a DiGiorno frozen pizza. Comes with a thin round pizza pan and a large, heavy guage aluminum sheet pan. And you can warm plates very very easily because there is room for even large, mitted-hands to insert and remove dinner plates or large platters from the rack. I'd recommend anyone considering a purchase take a look at the manual link I've included. A toaster oven is meant to be a simple tool. This one is. Buy it with your Mastercard and rest easy.
Too HOT!! August 9, 2008 momof3youngins I just returned this product. I opened the box and turned it on. WOW! The entire outside of this appliance gets WAY TOO HOT!! I didn't even use the oven, the fact that the oven gets so hot was enough for me.
