Amazon.com Review
Engineered in England and hand-assembled to the last detail, the Dualit 4-slice toaster is that ideal accomplishment--a hardworking kitchen appliance with an elegant presence. Its curvy retro shape is undeniably handsome and its structural components withstand the rigors of a high-octane kitchen. In fact, the toaster can output up to 130 slices per hour, should the entire neighborhood ever depend on you for breakfast or tea.

The key to Dualit's exceptionally even browning is the toaster's system of patented ProHeat elements, a series of flat bars behind a smooth, transparent coating. The result is an efficient, durable design, suitable for everything from brioche to sandwiches. The elements are encased by a rugged, stainless-steel housing that you may not even recognize as a relative of its lightweight, plasticky peers. Each slot measures 28 mm wide and is extra deep to allow for the use of the Dualit sandwich cage (sold separately). One adjustable leg accommodates uneven surfaces and rubberized feet protect your countertop.

The Dualit toaster has manually operated functions and is designed for people who like to engage with their appliances. Operation is simple but rewarding. A rocker switch selects 2- or 4-slice toasting, and a 4-minute timer knob lets you fine-tune browning time. Instead of a pop-up function that can prematurely cool toast, the unit comes with an ejector knob that you raise when you're ready for it. For smaller households or busy kitchens, Dualit also makes 2- and 3-slice models. All Dualit toasters come with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

Product Description
With a Dualit Vario toaster, there's a color for every cook and chef including one of this year's most popular color, pink. The Dualit Vario toaster has extra-wide, pressure sensitive, spring-loaded slots that allow you to use a new type of sandwich cage (sold separately), also by Dualit. With the sandwich cage, you can toast sandwiches inside your Dualit toaster - your gourmet goat cheese and Parma ham sandwich can be placed inside then inserted into the toaster slot. The sandwich cage's drip tray catches any cheese or filling that might fall out during toasting. Also unique about the Dualit Vario toaster is its award-winning ProHeat element, an adjustable thermostat and a Keep Warm function that warms without toasting. Switches control the degree of browning and the number of slots you wish to switch on. After toasting, your toast doesn't pop up (as it does with other toasters) but stays warm until the manual ejector knob in front is pushed up. There's also an adjustable rear foot and a removable crumb tray. About Dualit: It should come as no surprise that the man who invented the Dualit toaster was an engineer. In 1946, Max Gort-Barten produced the original Dualit toaster in his workshop just off London's Old Kent Road. This new toaster soon set new standards and was followed by one used commercially in restaurants. Designed for heavy-duty use, each Dualit Vario toaster is a

5 out of 5 stars I did. I bought a pink toaster.   July 12, 2008

I bought a pink toaster. I read the reviews. I bought a $200 pink toaster. And I don't even eat toast regularly. I think my grandchildren, if I had any, would appreciate my foresight.

5 out of 5 stars finally toast to boast about   October 6, 2007

After suffering from lowsy toast for years (had a cuisanart 4 slice toaster and a DeLongi toaster oven), I am so pleased to have a real appliance, that I believe will be the last toaster I have to buy. There are two things I didn't realize when I bought the toaster that might annoy folks. 1. you have to make a choice of toasting two or four slices of toast. If you want to make one slice, the toast isn't evenly toasted. There is a setting for two slices or four. If you are a small family get the two slice toaster. 2. There is a mechanical sound while the toaster is running. It doesn't bother me, but it might annoy someone else. Otherwise, This is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME FOUR SLICE TOASTER   September 15, 2003

I've been using a DUALIT toaster for years. Originally I purchased the toaster first for it's design. It has a stunning retro look with gleaming stainless steel accents.

Then I started using the toaster and found that it toasted bread evently and completely, unlike any other toaster I've ever had. The wide slots can accomodate virtually any kind of bread including our beloved bagels. We've also used the sandwich cage which is good for creating ham&cheese sandwiches and things of that nature for the kids. We utilize the one slice switch which focuses all energy in making the one slice and not heating up the slot where there is nothing to toast. It's also amazing that the toast stays in the unit when its finished, unlike other who pop up the toast, which causes the bread to cool down immediately.

I can't say enough good about the DUALIT toaster. We've tried virtually ever other brand of product and nothing will replace this Rolls Royce of toasters. We recommend this product highly and we're thrilled to see AMAZON.COM have all of the colors in the two and four slice range.
