Left side stopped working - unacceptable at this price July 28, 2008 Jeffrey T. Ahrens (New York, NY) Like some of the other reviewers, I am very disappointed in this product. After 1.5 years of very mild use, the left side stopped working. For a toaster of this price, I should be able to give it to my children when they leave for college. Ironically, their expensive espresso machine was buggy as well, so I'm really skeptical of the KitchenAid pro-line products now. Will look elsewhere, and recommend you do too.
Faulty Toaster October 17, 2007 The Bouncer (Sydney, Australia) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought a 4-slice Artisan toaster and half the slots failed just out of warranty and the plastic handles also shattered within six months of purchase. I wouldn't risk my money on buying this toaster. The repairs are really expensive too! Maybe they fixed the bugs in the factory?
sloppy overall finish October 2, 2007 G. Thornton (cirencester england) This is funny, because I wrote a review soon after I bought it about 18 months ago. At first sight nice build. But the little plastic handles which stick out and are gripped between fingertips to lower the bread are hopeless. After six months both failed within days of each other. It is as if they can't take the heat and get brittle and crack. Or maybe they just can't take the stress. I've obtained replacements but they'll only send them two at a time, so it's become a real pain gluing these things together, ordering new ones every six months, etc. It's spoiled my ownership of the toaster and I wouldn't buy Kitchenaid again. They must be aware of the problem: why don't they fix it? I think all these reconditioned toasters on sale are those which "self-started" and set fire to things - they had a product recall. I assume the reconditioned ones are the repaired ones. I understand they are made in China. I often regret buying from that source; I'd be happier to pay more and get the real McCoy.
toaster kitchenaid September 23, 2007 Charles Hill I had this toaster about 3-4 weeks and have no issues with it. It browns nicely on both sides as advertised. I would not spend 350 bucks for the retail price but for a reconditioned unit I would. Happy shopping.
I like it! August 20, 2007 N. Boyett (eugene, or) This is the best toaster we've ever owned. It does a near perfect job on almost every type of bread product. The slots don't fit really long slices, but most of the time that's not a problem. The beep at the end of the cycle is very loud, but it's short. We do have to turn the dial up fairly high to get the level of doneness we like, but perhaps others won't need to do that? It's solidly built, but not so large that it's a problem on the counter. We're happy with this toaster overall.
