Amazon.com Review
With a spring-loaded popup release, this medium-size round scoop (2-1/4-inch-diameter bowl and 9 inches long overall) molds perfect little mounds of ice cream, sherbet, and other frozen desserts. The release, which operates with a push of the thumb, also makes possible neatly molded servings of vegetable purées, like bright-green peas and yellow butternut squash. Oxo's Steel line is an all-stainless-steel variant of the company's familiar fat-handled Good Grips line. Rather than being straight-sided, this tool's handle is tapered from heel to finger grip and has satin-finish, stainless-steel panels top and bottom. The handle's sides feature the same design as those in the Good Grips line--they're made of soft processed rubber for comfort, with "fins," or grooves, that flex under pressure, conforming to individual finger grips and providing control when handles are wet or slippery. Like all Oxo tools, this ice cream scoop is dishwasher-safe; a hole in its handle facilitates hanging on a hook or peg. --Fred Brack

2 out of 5 stars over time, not dishwasher safe   May 23, 2008

I've had this item several years and the scooper is coroding from being washed in the dishwasher. I'm going to get a stainless steel one next.

5 out of 5 stars OXO Ice Cream Scoop   February 8, 2008

This scoop is shaped perfectly to make full rounded scoops of ice cream. Very satisfying.

3 out of 5 stars Just OK - has some flaws   October 14, 2007
guacgirl (California, USA)
I've had this scooper a while. It's basically better than a spoon and that's about it. The most annoying thing about it is that water gets stuck in the handle everytime it's washed in the dishwasher. Tonight when I used it, water dripped out of the handle into my ice cream bowl. It is sometimes hard to empty the ice cream ball out of the scooper - I have put use a spoon to get it off. I also find that it only scoops best with a fairly full and flat ice cream tub. I am planning on trying a different scooper soon. I give this 3 stars instead of 2 only b/c I've had and used it so long I guess it's only fair.

2 out of 5 stars Zinc head peels   September 29, 2007
kiwi (here n' there)
This product says it's dishwasher safe and the soft rubber grip feels great as is typical of OXO products. However, after 2 years of use, the inside of the scoop is peeling and had to be tossed since it was getting in the ice cream. I tried to buff it smooth before deciding to toss it but the peeled spots started getting bigger and bigger. It says it's warrantied but I don't have a receipt. At least I got 2 years of good use out of it. It scooped well and was strong enough for super frozen ice cream and the scoops made were aesthetically pleasing. I did notice that after a dishwasher cycle, some water would get trapped in the handle. The handle also became a bit loose. I'm going to try the Cuisinart stainless steel scoop, I hear stainless steel is the way to go.

5 out of 5 stars Great scoop   September 13, 2007

I really like this scoop. It will work on really hard ice cream, but I still prefer to let the ice cream soften a bit.
