Spaghetti, macaroni, egg noodles, lasagna noodles--you won't be at a loss for something to make for dinner with this pasta maker attachment set that fits all models of KitchenAid stand mixers. It consists of a grinding auger, grinder body, and small circular plastic plates with varying holes that shape the dough into pasta shapes. Also included are a plastic wrench tool, a wooden tool to push the dough, a small cleaning tool, metal clips, and a storage case for the pasta plates. Complete directions and some basic pasta dough recipes are included. --Marcie Bovetz

4 out of 5 stars pasta?   July 29, 2008

i read the reviews and decided to try it inspite of the one stars. i did not get it off amazon but from sur la table $$$ and paid the msrp. i got it here because of their return polocy (if i hated it i can return it and get the roller attachment no questions asked and no return shipping). so i tryed the basic egg noodle they had in the booklet and it was just too wet. so i had to reprocess the whole batch with more dry ingredents. the texture is really meally and then i stuffed it into the extruder. it worked for a couple minutes and then cloged. took it apart and uncloged, reloded with less product. finished and cooked it. it was good but bland. so hopped on the google for eletric exstruder pasta recipies and found better. i would buy again, trial and error is really dry mix and only put a small amount at a time.

5 out of 5 stars GR8 item!!!   March 28, 2008

This is one super meat grinder!!! I am heavily medicated, so I can't use it at the present, but we buy top cuts of sirloin & my husband LOVEs to grind our own. makes all the difference in the world & you won't get cooties from the butcher's grinder that runs all kinds of meat risks due to some poor health regulations. I noticed the taste is way better. never had such good ground meat in my life!!! Now the pasta maker attachments, I haven't yet tried. I bought it mainly to grind meat, but it was only a couple dollars more with the pasta attachments. Another fun task for my husband. lol

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

3 out of 5 stars Pasta Maker   March 14, 2008

Great product...except it did not come with the stomper. You need the stomper to make the pasta...so make sure that you get the pasta maker with the stomper.

5 out of 5 stars Food Grinder & Pasta Attachment   March 4, 2008

I ordered this product before reading all of the reviews, and then came back to read them while I was waiting for delivery, I almost cancelled my order! I am so glad I didn't. I tried it for the first time yesterday and had lots of extra supplies on hand figuring I would have to make a few batches of dough before I got the mixture right for making my noodles. I followed the basic egg noodle recipe that came with the book, the dough was very crumbly, I could barely get it to even stick into a ball, but I just covered it with plastic and let it rest for 15 minutes and then rolled it into little balls and started dropping them into the grinder. The first 10 inches of noodles were kind of funky looking so I set those aside and put those through at the end, the rest of the noodles came out great. I laid them out on a clean towel on the counter and when I was all done it took me about 5 minutes to separate out the noodles. I didn't have to flour them at all. My family said they were the best they have ever had! I really think most people that are having sticking and globbing problems have much too wet of a dough. For the price of the pasta plates I love them! I will likely still buy the rollers at some point, just cause they look cool. Another thing to keep in mind for those that are use to using the rollers is that the dough for the plates is much drier than the dough for the rollers. You couldn't use your recipe that you use for your rollers and expect for it to work in your plates. I also sprayed the grinder worm and the inside of the pasta plate with Pam before running anything through them, since I had read all of the reviews about sticking, but I'm not sure how it would have worked without it.

As for the food grinder, I ground up a pork roast and some beef steaks and it was quick and easy and the meat was delish! I didn't find cleaning up after the pasta or the meat to be difficult, although I washed them as soon as I was done using them, I imagine it could be more time consuming if the parts sat for a bit.

So far I love the whole set, and can't wait to try more recipes!

4 out of 5 stars Gets a bad rap   January 14, 2008

I have to say that I was a bit sketchy on this product after reading other reviews. I'm glad I bought it anyway. One major key to using this attachment successfully is the dough consistency. Dryer is better - but not too dry. You'll get the hang of it after a couple tries. I do recommend making pasta with another person as another set of hands will come in handy. Enjoy!
