Piece of junk and bad coffee September 6, 2008 C. Glu (Texas!) My first review, ever. I can't return this piece of junk Krups because I waited too long. Don't make that mistake. I only have three complaints: 1. Poor construction. Within 3 months the handle broke off the filter holder. 2. Poor design. The liquid coffee container's top is connected to the glass container making more difficult to place in the dishwasher. 3. BUT WORST OF ALL: BAD COFFEE. There is some kind of metallic smell and taste to the coffee. I thought that it would go away over time but it didn't. We used to own a Mr. Coffee espresso maker but it died after 15 years. Then, we have tried this piece of junk Krups. We now own another Mr. Coffee (only $40) and we are back to decent (not great) espresso-like coffee without the metallic taste. I see others like their Krups machine. Maybe it is just a matter of luck. Roll the dice if you like but I am sticking with Mr. Coffee.
Magnificent! August 22, 2008 Brock Imel (Ft. Wayne, IN, USA) I really have only wonderful things to say about this little machine. I bought it about a year ago for my dorm room (what does that say about me??) and it received almost constant use. The espresso has a respectable crema on it, and the frother works wonders. I removed the plastic appendage after day 2 and it still makes perfect foam right in my coffee cup! If you're looking for a moderately priced machine that makes drinks that taste leaps and bounds better than anything you could get at a coffee shop like Starbucks (they burn the milk!!), seriously consider this one!
nice while it lasted July 28, 2008 Anna in San Diego This coffee-maker was perfect for a household with only one coffee drinker, who wanted only 8 oz of strong coffee. Using a coffee cup as the receptacle saved having to wash the cute (but fragile) little glass pot. The machine gradually malfunctioned and died after about 250 uses, which in my case was a month beyond the 1-year warranty period. Still, I would consider buying the same coffee maker again.
Definitely nice for the price! July 28, 2008 J.V. (Pickerington, OH USA) I just bought this espresso machine at a local department store yesterday and managed to whip up quite a lovely cup of cappuccino this evening! It's pretty easy to use, but you absolutely have to make sure that you follow the instructions to a "T" to ensure a good cup of joe as well as preserve the machine (descaling, "priming" before first use, etc...) The brew pot is a bit awkward and the frothing tip is a bit short unless your frothing pitcher is shallow, but I really have no complaints at this point! I'm looking forward to making my own cappuccinos and lattes in the mornings before work instead of shelling out $4+ at the coffee shop or settling for a lackluster cup of cappuccino from a mix in my office cafeteria!
OK Not Great June 6, 2008 Wendell A. Werner (Castle Rock, CO) Gets the job done, but with some corners cut. The handle on the decanter was not straight. Could not disassemble and correct the problem without marring the plastic. The drain is molded into the unit not removable. You have to take the whole unit to the sink to rinse it out. The lid on the decanter broke only after a few months of use, meaning it does not stay on and will fall off when you're pouring. The unit does not appear to have as much power as my previous. It needs to heat up about 5 minutes before it is ready. The plastic cover for the steamer seems to do a good job frothing up the milk.
